I want to share a quick tip which turned a LOSING campaign into a winner, instantly.

One common method of starting PPV campaigns is the throw and stick method.

What this means is that you will get a ton of URLs for a bunch of websites, or a bunch of URLs for a domain and let traffic run to them and see what converts.

I did this with one of my campaigns targeting many URLs for one domain. My campaign was quickly getting a ton of traffic but not many conversions.

Most people complain that DirectCPV has poor quality traffic. In order to get the best quality traffic, I decided I needed to do something a little bit better than the throw and stick method since I didn’t want to blow a large budget on this campaign.

To begin-

Assumption 1: A website that requires users to login to access the main features has a majority of users who know, like, and trust that site. (Like Facebook)

Assumption 2: A user who is logged-in is more than likely a user that knows, likes, and trusts that site. (Since they have already been converted to members)

Assumption 3: It is better to target a logged-in user than a non-logged-in user and to target pages that are only visible after log-in because of the assumptions above.

In order to “pre-qualify” a visitor and get better quality traffic I eliminated all pages that did not require a user to login.

Instead of targeting facebook.com for example you would target facebook.com/?sk=nf which is the News Feed.

By targeting only urls that were only accessible by being a logged-in user, I got better quality traffic because I eliminated all people that did not already know, like, and trust the target site.

Immediately, just by eliminating these non-member targets, my ROI shot through the roof and I nabbed a profitable campaign that I can keep pouring dollars into everyday.

Always think of visitor psychology when running your campaigns.

If they haven’t even logged into a site, will your offer be believable?

Good luck,

Michael

Google did $9 Billion in revenue last year. 96% or more of that came from PPC advertising. Think there’s some valuable data in there somewhere?
Wordstream.com recently posted an awesome infographic showing where/how Google made $37.9 billion last year.
The top 10 industries spending money were:

1. Finance & Insurance
2. Retailers & General Merchandise
3. Travel & Tourism
4. Jobs & Education
5. Home & Garden
6. Computers & Consumer Electronics
7. Vehicles
8. Internet & Telecom
9. Business & Industrial
10. Occasions & Gifts

Hmm… pretty interesting data. Now we know the top 10 most competitive markets online. And because we know competition only exists where people are making money, these are good starting points.
Would I suggest you build a campaign or site targeting “Insurance.” Absolutely not. These are just markets to get your creative juices flowing.
Take these markets and drill down. Stop by one of your favorite affiliate networks and look at products in these verticals. Are you finding products that are selling well? Who do those products target?
Remember You’re looking for a niche of passionate, dedicated people within that overall market. I’ve even heard of this referred to as “hair on fire” niches. Another term is finding the “desperate buyer.” It’s not about exploitation. It’s about service to a group of people looking to be served.
Many of the products you find will be targeting a very specific niche within an overall market. Do a little keyword research. See any with low competition and high search volume? How about the product name – think you could rank for that? You may have just found your next niche if you answered yes.
If you’re a paid traffic affiliate you could use this list to find sub niches. For example, traffic costs would be too high to advertise to “gardeners.” And why would you want to anyway – that’s too general. All kinds of problems arise when you don’t know who EXACTLY you’re speaking to (I mentioned that twice for a reason).
Building a funnel for Organic tomato gardeners is where you want to go with this. It’s a sub niche within gardening that you can speak to directly. Products that sell well in the networks and marketplaces (like amazon) will reveal these sub niches to you.

3. Site Selling Marketplaces
There are several site buying/selling networks now. Flippa.com is probably the most mature and trusted of the lot. These marketplaces are a treasure trove of niche ideas. Nay, they are a treasure trove of proven niche ideas.

Here’s a list of a few networks

flippa.com
buysellwebsite.com
buywebsite.com
websitebroker.com

Search these networks for the most recently sold sites. Most marketplaces have a handy filter option to narrow it down. Then take a look at the sites that sold for the most amount of money. Boom! You’ve got an instant list of hot niches.
The sites that sell for top dollar have proven track records. Sure stuff can be faked but buyers are more educated and savvy than ever. There is a very high chance that those sites are legit and worth competing with.
If you’re an organic guy or gal you’ve now got a site to reverse engineer. Keywords, products, and monetization strategies that have proven to work are all yours.
If you’re a paid guy or gal – you’ve got verified evidence that a niche makes money. If it’s an affiliate site (not adsense) you’ve now got a product that you know converts. And on top of all that you’ve got a great site to examine and learn what makes the people in that niche tick. Their fears, their hopes, their dreams.
These are my most effective niche finding tactics. The site selling network strategy itself has made me six figures. All have proven effective not only for me.

Ever wonder how your competitors are setting up their ad strategy or where they’re getting their most valuable traffic? If you don’t keep up with your ads and continually optimize your reach, the competition is going to swoop in and take what’s yours. That’s why we’ve put together this simple 5-step guide on how to crush the competition on the Google Display Network.

Do Your Research: Conduct a competitive analysis of your top competitors. I’m sure you know about MixRank, since you’re reading our blog. So, head to mixrank.com, search for your competitor’s domains, and export all of the text ads, banner ads, and traffic sources to understand where you stand in relation to your competitors.

Drive More Reach: Based on the ads you exported from your top competitors, cross-reference their campaign strategy against yours. If they’re running significantly more campaigns than you, you know you’ll have re-visit your ad budget and scale your campaigns on other relevant sites. On the other hand, of you’re competition isn’t running as many campaigns, that’s a good sign too that you don’t have to increase your budget tremendously to reach more customers.

Don’t Miss Out On the Traffic: From the traffic sources you exported from MixRank, add any placements that you’re not currently bidding on to your managed placements. Be strategic about which ad groups you target these placements on, as the relevancy will impact your Quality Score. To get started, make sure to add every placement on the exported list. If your competitor is running ads on these sites, you definitely don’t want to be left out.

Optimize Your Budget: As you know, not all placements will perform the same way. So, since you probably have some type of budget for your ad spend, you’ll need to monitor the performance of each placement and adjust your bids accordingly over time. If you’re considering adding negative placements, it may be worthwhile to check back on MixRank to see if your competitors are still running ads on that traffic source before doing so. You can delete a placement as well, which would be less drastic. By deleting a placement, your ad may still show up on the site but only when ad group’s topic or keyword targets are relevant to the content on the site.

Leverage Banner Ads: Similar to search ads, contextual ads on the Display Network appear right beside your top competitors’. To eliminate the chances of a consumer clicking on your competitor’s ad completely, occupy the entire ad unit with a banner ad. The nice thing about banner ads is that certain sizes will almost guarantee your ad will be above the fold on most sites. The most popular sizes are 728×90, 160×600 and 300×250, but from my experience, 160×600 ads don’t perform as well as the others.

Here we go again with another no. 7 lol

Most of us hear about it, however very few know how YOU can start earning money with CPA Advertising ?
These are 7 things that I have discovered actually help make a globe of difference in my total revenues.

1.) Begin & Focus on 1 Major Market– (wellness, dating, biz ops ect) Several new associates make the blunder of diversifying too much at first and often this results in giving up on a number of strategies due to the fact that they did not have time or encounter to handle them all. Many individuals make the error of quiting prematurely on one market due to the fact that they did not examine it long sufficient.

2.) Focus on 1 Website traffic Source that is Scalable — start by mastering one source or testing it completely before transferring to a brand-new source. Start with a scalable traffic source like Facebook, or Google or Bing since you may quickly blow a big or small budget there. As soon as you are optimized then try brand-new website traffic sources.

3.) Select a Market With High Converting Delivers– Your affiliate supervisor can easily advise you exactly what the most effective converting products are.

4.) Fail to remember the Buzz – All you require is 2 things– website traffic and a high converting sales movement. Fail to remember the buzz … you don’t require it. If your sales web page or adverts have excessive media hype people will definitely be much more suspicious. Just be straightforward and advise the realities.

5.) Build something that will last – Do not believe you need to have 10 strategies going to make a suitable quantity of hard earned cash. Every little thing is scalable. The trick is to develop a business from a cpa advertising campaign. Build a listing at the very same time, or gather facebook likes, or develop an authority internet site.

Authority Internet site Annihilation is an excellent book to check out if you wish to learn ways to do this right … from scratch.

6.) Examination for Maximum Conversions Prior to Scaling– Ensure that you have checked your advertisements, and getting webpage and front end and back end prior to increasing your finances or including brand-new sources. You will definitely have to invest money to purchase the information so you may tweak your strategies. I get into some tweaking examples in the Cubics.com example.

7.) Obtain Genuine Training and Help – Online forums are good if you have a couple of moments to wipe out and wish to sign up with into a couple of discussions, but I would not encourage it for good strong cpa advertising training or study. If you are serious about Certified Public Accountant and affiliate marketing put in a little of time and money into a sturdy show.

Many of those gurus who teach CPA marketing do not actually do it. Make sure if you are visiting get training, or a training course that you purchase from an individual that is actually in the “trenches”. Do your study and make certain these individuals you are purchasing from are the real offer.

You may begin with the complimentary Certified Public Accountant cash program and don’t forget to join our newsletter and forum for more interesting articles!

Begin Out & Focus on 1 Major Market — (wellness, dating, business ops ect) Several brand-new affiliates make the error of transforming as well a lot at first and often this outcomes in offering up on many campaigns since they did not have time or encounter to manage them all. Construct something that will certainly last – Do not believe you need to have 10 strategies running to make a good amount of cash.

And remember, ones one campaign brings you positive ROI, go and scale it up, and you will earn big in no time.

Be the best

Let me start with..

Running both search and content network campaigns together – Split search and content campaigns so you can control their budgets separately. These are two very different animals.
Not using analytics – Analytics and conversion tracking are musts. If you can’t track it, how do you know if you are making money or losing it?
Starting with too many keywords – Start with few keywords (5-10) per ad group, then grow slowly.
Using broad match options – Stay away from broad match. Stick to phrase and exact match options.
Using only one landing page or sending all clicks to the homepage – Each ad group should go to a specific landing page targeted for the keywords in the group.
Not targeting countries – Start with USA. Don’t branch out unless you can show conversions at home.
Bidding and budgeting according to Adwords/Adcenter recomendations – Take ad and bid optimization recommendations with a grain of salt. After all, they are coming from a company who has a financial interest in getting you to bid more.
Bottom line… start out as simply as possible. This will allow you to learn and understand before moving on to more advanced techniques. It is your ad budget that will be wasted by jumping in to the deep end of the pool before learning to swim.

Split Search and Content Network Campaigns

Search campaigns and content network campaigns are two very different animals. Search users are generally further along in the purchasing process. They entered in your specific search keywords into a search engine after all.

With the content network you usually need to inform more before you start selling as they most likely weren’t expressly shopping for something when they clicked the ad. They were reading the news or their email when they saw your advertisement.

These two big differences mean huge CTR differences for each of the campaigns. Good CTR for a search campaign is generally in the 3%-5% range. For a content campaign, good CTRs may be more likely 0.5%-1%.

Another difference is the methods in which your ads are triggered for each campaign. With search campaigns, ads are triggered based on the keywords you are bidding on. Content network campaigns are not so straight forward. Yes, the keywords you supply come into play, but in most cases, these are a rough guide, not a rule as in the search campaign. Google, Bing and others may try to place your ads on as many sites as possible to fill their inventory of ad slots available.

Use Analytics and Conversion Tracking

This one is so simple. If you aren’t tracking your performance, how do you know if you are wasting your money? Are you profitable paying $1.00 a click to get someone to your site? Or is profitability only possible with $0.25 clicks. How do you know what your break even point is?

Without basic analytics and conversion tracking, there is no way to judge ROI for your campaigns. You quite possibly could be spending more money to get that customer than they could ever return to you in sales. Not Good Business!

It’s also worth mentioning here that conversion tracking should be verified as properly functioning before launching any sizable campaigns.

Start With Few Keywords Per Ad Group

In the beginning, you have so many variables in play there is no way anyone could keep the relationships between them straight, much less a PPC novice. Between the keywords themselves, CPC bids, the actual ad text and the landing pages, how do you know how each effects the other?

Sure, a high CPC bid will usually get your ad higher and better placement and more views. This in turn should result in more clicks, but are these clicks leading to more sales? The trick isn’t to pay the most money to get the most sales. The goal is to pay the least amount of money to get the most highly targeted clicks.

Which keyword group converts best with which landing page? How does the keyword quality score affect bids and ROI? Which ad text gets the most clicks for which keyword group?

It can be daunting to keep all of this in your head at once. Now multiply all of these questions by dozens and dozens, or even hundreds of keywords and it will be impossible to wrap your head around. If you are just starting out, the goal should be to learn and to make money. The learning part will be much easier by limiting the variables as much as possible and sticking to several tightly targeted ad groups with only a dozen keywords each.

Stay Away from Broad Match

Broad match means that if your given keyword is auto insurance, using broad match, your ad could be shown for auto insurance fraud, how to scam my auto insurance, auto insurance agents in Timbuktu and thousands of others you never intended. Unless you can convert that traffic, you are wasting your ad budget on these placements.

Stick to phrase match and exact match bidding for your keywords until you have a better grasp on the potential placements with broad match. Your ad budget will thank you.

Use Landing Pages Targeted for Each Ad Group

As we discussed earlier, search and content network users most likely aren’t in the same stage of making a purchase decision. Searchers more often are closer to the purchasing mindset, while content network traffic is most often still in the information gathering stage.

Trying to close the sale to both using the same landing page is most likely going to leave one of your campaigns with a dismal conversion rate.

Target Your Home Country First

This is a simple checkbox in most advertising platform’s campaign setups. If you don’t already sell to folks outside of the USA, why would you pay for clicks to get them to your site?

Prove your campaigns and landing pages on your best target demographic before hitting the road and going international.

Don’t Rely on Advertiser’s Recommendations

In setting up hundreds of campaigns, I have never once followed the recommendations of Google Adwords or Adcenter as to my budget or bid prices. While I’m not saying these are highly suspect, it is worthwhile to remember that they make more money when you spend more with them. Their recommendations may get you to the top of their placements, but they may send you to the poor house too without many more sales.

Bid what you are comfortable with and budget what you can spend each month.

If you can eliminate these easy mistakes from your campaign you will be much more likely to see early successes in you PPC campaigns instead of wasting a whole month’s budget without seeing a sale. We do provide campaign setup services and ppc management services if need just a helping hand or would like us to take over your PPC marketing efforts.

After much thinking, I’ve decided to share some of the banner arbitrage techniques that allowed me to create some of the most successful performance based banner campaigns ever. For almost 50 weeks I had the same banners up on advertising networks, day after day making ridiculous amounts of money. During that period I bought probably over $24 million in banner campaigns in almost every single advertising network that exists with in many cases profit margin of anywhere between 40-50%. These campaigns consistently worked over and over again, while brand campaigns consistently cost me money when agencies didn’t pay their bills, paid late or underpaid. Here are how they worked, and how I believe they can continue to make anyone money for anyone involved in media buying.

1) Use as many creative versions possible.
Talking with many of the arbitragers out there, they tell me the same thing: they do really well at first and their profit margins drop extremely fast because their creative gets stale. Since they have found a “working” creative, they keep on using it over and over again – even after people steal it. This method of using the same exact creative causes faster and faster burn out and lowers your profit margin. Have many, many options, some of them with just slight changes. Move a graphic over, change the text color, use different photos.

2) Do heavy optimization based on numerous factors.
Each set of creative should be duplicated to optimize based on a variety of factors and be keyed to those factors. Of course you should optimize based on ROI, but you need also to target the banners to other things including geo-targeting, time of day, age groups and so on. The reasoning is that different people will be attracted to completely different creatives. If you are buying enough media, the ad networks will not charge you any more to do those targets than buying a general campaign that is RON, so this makes more sense and produces higher profits. Take a group of 100 creatives and set it to optimize for example only to people in NYC and you’ll find very fast which creatives have great response only to that region. Again, this technique produces higher profit because you are only serving to specific people, instead of just specific sites (which is the normal optimization procedure).

3) Do not be tempted to trade volume for profit.
Too many affiliates get greedy and want to make quick cash now, so they over-buy and lower their profit margins way too fast. Right now when I look over advertising networks, one thing I see is way too many campaigns that catch fire and a month later burn out. Networks that are experts at this game know that long term money is always a better friend.

4) Use “Video” Flash.
This is probably one of my most successful techniques and networks always asked me how I could afford to put video in my campaigns and pay the streaming charges. It was simple, I never actually used video but had very small clips compressed and actually placed into the flash file and repeated over and over again. For example, I would create a dating banner with a girl dancing in front of the camera, but it was only a few second clip repeated. You are looking for immediate reaction in a DR/Affiliate campaign, don’t forget. The user will see something and respond, so it doesn’t matter if it’s a real video, the perception that it’s a video is all that matters.

5) Change up the campaign/landing page you are sending the banner with unbranded creatives.
Some campaigns may not like this, but try to get permission from networks to not use their branded creatives and change where the banners are clicking to. The first reason behind this is that you will be able to find which campaign has a higher ROI and also as mentioned in #2 optimize even based on that. The other reason is to alleviate your risk. Many years ago I had a campaign with eAdvertising for a dating site that month after month they paid me on time, the dating client had no problem with the traffic – and suddenly I was stiffed for almost $200k because the client said the leads “weren’t converting.” We all know the issues. Luckily for me I was running that same campaign to the same advertiser on 4 other networks.

Remember, the idea in all the campaigns is to have as many people click on the banners as possible, get as many people to the landing pages of your advertisers. There are so many articles on landing pages optimization, so much on different tools to use but the easiest way to still make money is to get tons of people using these techniques to click on a banner, go to a website, fill out an offer, sign up for a product.

Good luck, and take action

But what if you don’t want to stand in the spotlight?

If you wondered how the pros film high quality videos for their websites and products but were
too shy to step in front of the camera yourself — worry no more!

You can film your own “off screen” movies by using PowerPoint or Keynote to display your screen
instead of your blemishes on your website or blog. The only trick is knowing how to record and
film those slides on your computer.

If you have a PC then I highly recommend Camtasia. It’s screen capture software that can
literally record anything you do on your computer screen and turn it into a video. You simply
record your presentation and audio and you’re all set.

If you have a Mac then you can actually record your slides with audio and export them as a
Quicktime video in Keynote itself! You can also download a wonderful program called ScreenFlow
that will allow you to capture your entire screen like Camtasia does.

The objective of this type of targeting is to encourage the user to return to your website – and hopefully convert.

Remarketing is extremely flexible and you can get tremendously precise with your targeting. You can target users who visit specific pages on your website.

When someone visits your website, you can drop a tracking cookie onto their computer. Later, when that individual is viewing other websites that utilize Google AdSense, you can display your PPC ad in front of that user again via the Google AdWords Display Network (GDN). Here’s a short list of targeting strategies to use:

1. Visits to your homepage: This is your broadest targeting method. You can deliver GDN ads to anyone who visits your homepage.
-Visits to specific product pages: If you’re an ecommerce client, you can target users who visit specific products on your website. Or if you offer a variety of different services, you can target users for each service they visit.
2. Visits to your landing pages: More than likely, visitors to your landing page will come from PPC. You can retarget these individuals in an effort to gain more value from that initial click.
3. Visits to your shopping cart: If a visitor goes all the way through your website, looks at your products, and actually places one or more items in their shopping cart – they are pretty engaged. You can target users who use your shopping cart but don’t purchase.
4. Visits to your confirmation page: Does your product have a high propensity for reorders? You can target users who visit the purchase confirmation page. You can encourage your previous customers to purchase again by bringing them back to your website with remarketing.
5. Visits to your FAQ/Contact page: If a user looks for additional information on your site, such as your FAQ page or contact form, they have exhibited a high level of interest because they are actively looking for answers. However, if they have to search deep into your website’s content, they may not find what they’re looking for. You can bring these specific users back to your site and help them convert.
6. Visits to your free trial confirmation page: If you offer any type of pre-conversion action, such as a free trial or a whitepaper download, you can target users who complete this initial engagement action. For example, if you offer a 30-day free trial of your product, you can deliver ads to individual who are in this trial period and encourage them to purchase your product.

These are just a few strategies that work.

Your remarketing options are as unique as the structure of your website.

How Can These Targeting Segmentations Apply to Your Website?
Ask yourself these questions:

Why would someone leave your website before converting?
What does it mean if a user leaves your website on a specific page?
What would you say to these abandoned visitors to get them back, and how would you convince them to convert?
